The day I learned I was pregnant, I knew I wanted April on my birth team to help me through the coming months in preparation of childbirth. She was among the first to know my partner and I were expecting, even while we kept the pregnancy secret from others for nearly 5 months! If you’ve ever met April, you already know she’s warm, welcoming, and an incredibly interesting individual. This woman is beautiful both inside and out, exuding light and love in all she does. She’s a goddess, a divine being whose presence on this earth is a gift to all who have the privilege to meet her. Imagine someone like that helping you through pregnancy and birthing… yes, it was wonderful!
April was a crucial part of my birth team (maybe the most crucial), providing a wealth of information regarding natural birth and a healthy pregnancy. My inbox is filled with literature and various resources that helped my birth journey and would help yours, too! (She’s so knowledgeable and resourceful!)
Because I brought her on immediately, April was with me *every* step of the way. I am eternally grateful for her guidance and support throughout my pregnancy, the birth of Finn, and my current stage of postpartum — from telling me that my partner and I are soul mates, to accompanying me to appointments, from Epsom salts and essential oils, to hugs and consolation when my depression and anxiety set in, from smoothies and no bakes and blueberries, to the string lights and mantras in the room where I brought my baby into this world… Every step of the way, she provided emotional and physical support however she could.
Each birth journey is different based on external and internal factors. Throughout my pregnancy, I suffered from debilitating hip and sacral pain and intense anxiety about birth. As a yoga instructor, she showed me positions to alleviate pain and meditations to calm both body and mind. Additionally, she provided contacts in different holistic and medical fields for me to utilize. Because of my history of sexual abuse, April offered support and resources to help guide me through the process of birthing my child in light of that trauma. Her support is one reason I can look back on my birthing experience with gratitude for what my body accomplished in creating life and bringing a beautiful, healthy little boy into the world. She inspired me to practice self-compassion instead of only seeing the trauma birthing caused and the way I felt I let myself down.
April is a woman who fully embraces her divine, feminine power and actively encourages other women to embrace their own. Her light and wisdom guided me on my journey. Anyone with her on their birthing team will be a blessed individual.
Hire April as your doula! You need her. Trust me.
